Portable Fish Finders (FF3XXXX Item Numbers): Why is the depth reading “---“?
Make sure that you are operating the unit within the depth specifications. Be aware that the depth is measured form the sonar sensor, not the float.
Be certain that the sonar sensor is plugged in properly by placing the sensor up to your ear. You should hear a faint ticking sound indicating that the sonar signals are being sent out properly.
If your trying to "Shoot-Thru" ice or a boat hull, verify that the unit works directly in the water first, then follow the instructions in the Operator's Manual exactly. Keep in mind, ANY air bubbles between the sensor and the water will cause the unit to malfunction.
Finally make sure that the water is not overly choppy causing the sonar sensor to move around significantly.
